| Reporting to an R&D Product Development Manager in the Global Gardens Category, the Scientist Horticulture leads the biological requirements of projects to drive a diverse portfolio for our Growing Media business segment which focuses on soil and mulch products for both the traditional and the organic/natural gardener. The Scientist Horticulture scouts and tests new technologies, recommends and develops new products, creates enticing product claims and identifies cost saving opportunities. The Scientist Horticulture will constantly mine the realm of technologies and match them to both articulated and unarticulated consumer needs to drive the garden category and our business. |
To ensure success, the Scientist Horticulture will identify, plan and implement major biological research programs that deliver professional research results leading to clear decisions. The Scientist Horticulture will effectively use internal and external resources including Scotts’ research stations, universities and independent contract researchers. The Scientist Horticulture must develop strong partnerships with key cross-functional experts in R&D, marketing, regulatory, sourcing, and manufacturing to understand the possibilities and implications of innovative ideas and cost-savings. The Scientist Horticulture will participate extensively in their respective business segment as a hands-on consumer and a hands-on researcher to fully understand our products, competitors, gaps and develop cutting-edge biological research methods.
