Turf Agronomist (Madison, GA or Albany, OR) Our Garden Segment is searching for a Turf Agronomist to work from our Madison, GA location or the Albany, OR location. In summary, this position is responsible for technical expertise, future product development, internal training for all Pennington turf grass seed products with our sales and marketing teams, as well as representing Central Garden & Pet in numerous seed industry organizations. MEASURES OF SUCCESS • Partners with industry experts to bring the best technology to Pennington Seed on seed-coating along with other internal team members when a product has potential for crossover sales. • Develops methods of coating seed that can be replicated on the commercial coaters. • Partners with our internal seed research and development business on Product Development. • Spearheads the Seed Research and Product Development committee and keep notes regarding action items and progress. • Actively participates on the Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance to further their objectives. • Works with Sales, Marketing and the Grass Seed Business Unit to keep them apprised of developments in the Turfgrass industry, both internally and externally. • Attends and engages key university personnel in field days activities. • Works closely with key university personnel when external trials are required. • Works with manufacturing teams to seek ways to reduce cost inputs.
IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES • Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Science and/or Agronomy required, with related experience in Turfgrass Science. • Advanced degree in Turfgrass Science and/or Agronomy highly preferred. • 5+ years’ experience in dealing with grass seed, seed coating, and grass seed fertility is highly preferred. • Exceptional project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams. • Proficient in analyzing/leveraging complex technical data and persuasively presenting findings; experience presenting to management, sales organizations and university personnel. • Strong organizational and time management/prioritization skills. • Strong communication skills; written, oral and formal presentation. • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. • Self-motivator able to deliver satisfactory work under limited supervision. • 25% domestic travel may be required. • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
