This is a 9-month, tenure-track position, 40% teaching, 60% research, located in Athens, GA. The successful candidate will be expected to implement a teaching program focused on soil physics and hydrology in Georgia, and to develop an internationally recognized research program on soil physics/hydrology. Areas of research may include numerical modeling of soil processes across spatial and temporal scales; physical controls on soil and ecosystem processes associated with climate change; water quality and quantity in agricultural and urban streams; rhizosphere processes and their interactions with water, nutrient, and contaminant transport in soil and the vadose zone; and impacts of soil physical properties, hydrologic processes, and soil water dynamics on nutrient cycling and microbial processes. This position will fill a critical need for expertise on soil physical processes in the critical zone, and will complement soil and environmental scientists at UGA.
The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with relevant programs at UGA and demonstrate experience in working with interdisciplinary groups. Teaching responsibilities include a split-level undergraduate-graduate soil physics course, an undergraduate introduction to water resources course, a graduate watershed-scale modeling course, and an advanced graduate course in the individual’s area of expertise. One or two of these courses may be offered every-other year depending on student demand and programmatic responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active, externally-funded research program, publish research results in peer reviewed journals, maintain a Federal Hatch project, supervise graduate students, and advise undergraduate students. Responsibilities could change depending on program and/or departmental needs.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in soil science with focus on hydrology and/or soil physics, with demonstrated experience in teaching.
