The plant pathology team at the Eastern Ag Research Center in Sidney, MT is seeking a detail-oriented individual to assist with applied field plot research. Someone that enjoys working outdoors and is committed to helping farmers is ideal. With this position there are opportunities to gain new knowledge and skills in the areas of agronomy and pest management as well as attend state research and commodity meetings throughout the year. Inexpensive on-site single-family housing is available for this position.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Assist in the design, establishment, and maintenance of field studies, including the application of pesticide treatments, data collection, and the analysis of research results under the supervision of the plant pathologist.
Operate field machinery including farm vehicles, tractors, and sprayers. Will occasionally need to move equipment on trailers.
Assist with generating yearly reports.
Supervise summer student workers, student interns, and graduate students.
B.S. in agronomy, plant science or a closely related discipline.
Familiarity with experimental design, data collection and analysis.
Experience with multiple computer programs including the Microsoft office suite.
M.S. in agronomy, plant pathology, or a closely related discipline.
Field research experience in agronomic crops including field design, field plot layout, plot maintenance including fertilization and pest management, harvesting of experimental plots, and procedures and practices associated with grain cleaning and processing.
Experience with operation of small farm equipment.
Working knowledge of statistical analysis and software.
