Research Associate III, Soybean Molecular Marker Laboratory
The Molecular Marker Laboratory of the Soybean Breeding and Genetics Program in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Tennessee is seeking qualified applicants for a Research Associate position. The successful applicant will serve as technician and manager for the lab.
Typical work duties of the selected candidate may include:
Supporting the PI and graduate students in the design, management, and execution of laboratory research projects.
Organizing daily technical operations including coordination and allocation of equipment and space.
Analyzing samples using laboratory equipment including our Roche LightCycler 480, Perten DA7250 near infra-red reflectance instrument, and HP 6890 gas chromatograph.
Maintaining laboratory equipment and greenhouse systems in good working condition.
Packaging seed for planting.
Managing the summer field crossing block.
Assisting with fall field note-taking and harvest operations.
Analyzing and reporting results.
Supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students.
Serving as laboratory Safety Officer.
The candidate will be involved in a wide range of research activities in the laboratory and field with the goal of improving soybean yield, quality, and disease resistance. This position may require travel to outlying locations (10-15%).
Minimum qualifications include a Master of Science degree in Plant Sciences or related field.
Experience with laboratory DNA equipment and equipment for seed analysis (e.g. NIR and GC) is highly desired. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral English skills, be self-motivated, highly organized, and willing to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students to conduct laboratory and field research.
