This position will be responsible for coordinating pesticide special registration reviews and conducting outreach activities with appropriate staff within and outside the agency. This coordination includes: 1) tracking and researching scientific and regulatory pesticide issues related to environmental and human health and pesticide contaminants of emerging concern; 2) coordinating high level research team involving multiple agencies for collection and dissemination of current information on pesticides related issues 3) facilitating responsible use of pesticides through development and promotion of Best Management Practices especially for protecting federally listed endangered and threatened species from adverse exposure to pesticides; 4) providing education about pesticides and pesticide related issues to stakeholders through presentations, webinars, guest lectures, and other informational events; 5) representing the State of Minnesota and MDA in interviews and with media contacts related to providing information about pesticide activities as needed. Work is frequently conducted in conjunction with PhD and Masters level staff of the Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, University of Minnesota Extension, EPA, registrants and other key information providers.
A Master’s degree in an Agricultural Sciences field such as Weed Science, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Soil and Pest Management, Applied Plant science or related field.
Two (2) years of practical research experience conducting research or evaluating and interpreting research data on pesticides.
Specialized knowledge of pesticide practices used on Minnesota crops or comparable conditions.
Excellent writing and presentation skills in order to interact with a variety of audiences including growers, Ag groups, PhD level researchers, media contacts, etc..
Established history of authoring and publishing extension articles, scientific reports and journal articles.

Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.
A PhD in an Agricultural or Environmental Sciences field such as Weed Science, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Soil and Pest Management, or a closely related field.
Strong knowledge of pesticides and their properties and use patterns.
More than two (2) years of practical experience conducting research or evaluating and interpreting research data on pesticides.
Technical knowledge in pesticide product technology including herbicide tolerant crops.
Specialized knowledge of fate and transport of pesticides in the environment.
Advanced knowledge in field plot design and statistics is higly desireable.
Strong leadership skills.

Pesticide Technical Unit is a dynamic work environment staffed by four PhD level research scientists working on a variety of pesticide topics including risks and benefits of pesticide use, protection of pollinator, and other issues which impact MN agriculture and the environment.
