A post-doctoral researcher position is available in the Soil Nutrient Management and Water Quality Lab at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The selected candidate will work under the USDA-NRCS project to evaluate the impact of cover crop on nitrogen rate, soil health, nitrate leaching, and greenhouse gas emissions. Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, establishing and maintaining small plot field trials, data management, sampling (water, soil, plant), completion of laboratory experiments, and writing manuscripts and reports. This position would require travel to the experimental sites far from the campus.

The selected candidate will be part of the research and extension team and present research-based information to stakeholders, including state agencies and farmers in Nebraska. The candidate will be able to collaborate with faculty from diverse disciplines in the agriculture and natural resources institute. The candidate will be encouraged to attend (at least one per year) professional meetings/workshops or other relevant meetings to present their research. The candidate can develop their research ideas within the project goals. Salary will be based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned doctorate by hire date in soil science, agronomy, environmental science or closely related field is required.
• Experience and training in soil nutrient management and water quality sampling.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.
• Must have a driver’s license or be ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in statistical analyses using SAS and/or R software.
• Strong publication record in refereed journals.
• Skills in process-based modeling.
• Experience mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students.

This position will be appointed annually, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years based on performance and funding availability.
