About This Role: The KSU Soybean Breeding program is looking for an Assistant Scientist to conduct field research involving genomic selection and trait phenotyping. The primary traits of interest include seed yield, seed composition, abiotic resistance and genetic diversity. The Assistant Scientist will be responsible for conducting field and greenhouse experiments to contribute to the development of new soybean varieties and variety prediction models by working collaboratively with staff, graduate and undergraduate students, Post-Doctoral Fellows, colleagues and partners. Duties include: organizing field sites, greenhouses and winter nurseries; developing packeting plans; processing and packeting seed; planting; field management; collecting trait data; and harvest.

What You'll Need to Succeed: Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Agronomy or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. degree in Agronomy or related field.
Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
Ability to work extended hours/weekends and overnight trips to off-site locations during peak periods, especially during planting and harvesting.
Ability to do physical lifting (up to 50 lbs) and work in varying environments (heat, cold, wind, etc.).
Ability to walk through fields and greenhouse bays to conduct research.
Ability to train/supervise undergraduate employees, work as a strong team member, as well as work independently when needed.
Ability to operate, adjust and maintain equipment used by the project. Equipment includes planter, plot thresher, single-plant thresher, laptop, handheld computer and irrigation system in the field and greenhouse.
Experience in plant breeding or related field.
Experience operating and maintaining farm equipment.
Knowledge of multi-media tools, EXCEL, WORD and computer skills.
Pesticide Applicators License.
Other Requirements:
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Valid driver's license upon employment.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Pesticide Applicators License, or must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License and Pesticide Applicators license within the first eight months of employment.
